The two-day G20 summit opens today at the Constantinovsky Palace in Strelna, on the outskirts of St. Petersburg, Russia. During the forum, world leaders will discuss a number of issues, but the situation in Syria will be the main topic.

According to presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, on the first day of the summit, Vladimir Putin will hold several bilateral meetings. In particular, prior to the forum, the Russian president will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and the head of the Japanese government, Shinzo Abe.

It was previously reported that U.S. President Barack Obama had refused to hold a personal meeting with Putin because of the situation with Edward Snowden. Nevertheless, the American politician will take part in the St. Petersburg summit.
